VEHS Students Build Prosthetic Arm for Vickers Students

A heartwarming story to kick off VEHS graduation celebrations this afternoon:

Katelyn Vincik, a student at Vickers Elementary School, had her final fitting today for a prosthetic arm that was constructed/styled by Victoria East High School graduating seniors Janelle Oldfather and William Seiler.
They did this under the tutelage of these amazing teachers: Amy Alexander (CTE), Richard Zurfluh (English) and Adam Wertman (CTE/Science).

Katelyn requested a red, white, and blue theme with glow-in-dark stars, so, that is exactly what she got! The green pinkie was a last minute stylistic switch that Katelyn insisted on.

The work on this project started around Spring Break and entailed many iterations/design challenges/fittings along the way. The final fitting happened just 5 hours before VEHS graduation this evening!

Katelyn walked away grinning ear to ear, as well as Janelle, William, and everyone else involved in the project.
What a great, rewarding way to end the year!
