Victoria ISD Implementing Final Exam Exemption Policy Beginning Spring 2019

2018-2019 Final Exam Exemption Eligibility:

High school students must meet all of the following criteria in order to be exempt from a final exam:

  • Have a grade average of 80 or better for the semester in the class(es) from which the exemptions are requested and no more than three absences for the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year;
    • 90-semester average and no more than three (3) absences
    • 85-semester average and no more than two (2) absences
    • 80-semester average and no more than one (1) absence.
  • No ISS referrals, OSS, or DAEP assignments
  • No outstanding fees and/or fines

ALL absences, excused and unexcused, count per class period, except:

  • Approved school-related or school-sanctioned activities
  • Pre-approved college days (junior and senior students only, 2 days maximum per school year)

Maximum Exemptions Allowed:

Grade 9: Two (2) classes per semester
Grade 10: Three (3) classes per semester
Grade 11: Four (4) classes per semester
Grade 12: All classes per semester
*Concurrent or dual credit course semester exams are not eligible for exemption

  • Students eligible for semester exemption(s) must declare the courses that will apply prior to testing. Campus principal will determine date exemption declarations are due.
  • Any absence, discipline referral, or grade reduction below 80 after the exemption declaration may cause the student to be ineligible for the exemption.
  • Students ARE required to attend the class(es) in which they are exempt on the scheduled final exam day. Teachers will provide other assignments or activities during the final exam time. An exemption is an exam exemption and not an attendance exemption.
  • Any student qualifying for an exemption may take the final exam if he/she believes it will improve his/her semester average.

Please direct questions regarding this administrative regulation to the campus principal.
