Dual Credit Enrollment:

 

Dual Credit Enrollment is an educational program, available through the partnership between VISD and the Victoria College, designed to enable high school students to enroll in college courses and receive both college and high school credits for the same course. Dual Credit Enrollment is a great way for high school students to get a jump start on their college education.

 

 

Students interested in Dual Credit must complete the following items

 
  1. Apply to Victoria College at www.ApplyTexas.org and allow 3 - 5 days for processing:

    • Once on the ApplyTexas homepage, log in or create a new account (if you do not already have one).
    • Write down your username and password for safe keeping.
    • Click on "My Applications" > "Start a New Blank Application" > "Create a new 2 year college admissions application".
    • Select "Victoria College" from the drop down menu.
    • When a question appears asking if you are completing this application for dual credit purposes, click "yes".
        • If you miss this step, your application will not be classified as a dual credit student.
    • Semester of Entry:
      • For courses beginning in January 2020, select > "Spring 2020".
      • For courses beginning in August 2020, select > "Fall 2020, or Summer 2020 if Fall 2020 is not yet available".
    • Continue completing the application until it is fully complete then submit the application.
  2. Complete Testing Requirements
    • Students are required to meet certain testing standards prior to enrollment.
    • We will accept TSI, PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, ACT and/ or STAAR scores. These scores can exempt you from having to take the TSI.
        • NOTE: PSAT/NMSQT scores can only be used for dual credit admission purposes and cannot be used for traditional enrollment purposes. This is also true for certail STAAR scores.
    • Testing
      • TSI Assessment:
        • The test is computer-based, not-timed and is offered at a cost of $12.
        • Scores are received immediately following completion of the assesssment.
        • There are two options for students wishing to take the assessment:
          1. Students can take the assessment at the Victoria College Testing Center, where the test is available up to six days a week (This availability does not include midterm and finals weeks). You can view TSI testing dates and times provided by VC as well as sign-up for a testing date here.
          2. Students can take the assessment on the Victoria East Campus. Dates are available monthly and students are allowed up to two free testing sessions. Please visit the Career and College Center to sign-up.
      • PSAT/NMSQT:
        • If you believe that your scores exempt you, log in to collegeboard.org to print out a copy of your scores. Scores will need to be turned in to the Career and College Center for processing.
      • SAT:
        • If you believe that your scores exempt you, log in to collegeboard.org to print out a copy of your scores. Scores will need to be turned in to the Career and College Center for processing.
      • ACT:
        • If you believe that your scores exempt you, log in to act.org to print out a copy of your scores. Scores will need to be turned in to the Career and College Center for processing.
      • STAAR:
        • Score requirements:
          1. English II STAAR score of 4000 or higher.
          2. High school algebra II class average of 70 or higher with a 4000 of higher on the algebra I EOC.
        • If you believe your scores exempt you, print out a copy of your scores. Scores will need to be turned in to the Career and College Center for processing.
  3. Attend a Dual Credit Orientation:
    • It is mandatory that the student and their parent/ guardian attend an orientation meeting to learn more about the Dual Credit Program.
      • This meeting must be completed prior to the start date of the student's dual credit course(s).
    • Group Session: Our next meeting will be March 11, 2020 @ 5:30pm at the Victoria College Student Center.
    • Individual Session: Please email me a few dates and times in which you are available so I can book you for a one-on-one informational session.
  4. Submit the Dual Credit Agreement Form:
    • Complete the online form here.
  5. Submit your Dual Credit Contract:
    • Please download the form from the right side of this page, complete and return to Ms. Koebrick via email or drop off at the Career & College Center (first door on the right in the East library).
  6. Submit your Updated Contact Information Form:
    • Please download the form from the right side of this page, complete and return to Ms. Koebrick via email or drop off at the Career & College Center (first door on the right in the East library).
  7. Submit your Bacterial Meningitis Shot Record:
    • Please turn in a copy of your shot record, from your doctor or pharmacist, to Ms. Koebrick in the Career & College Center. 
    • Please do not send this information via email as it contains confidential HIPPA Law protected content.
  8. Submit your **Optional FERPA form:
    • This form will need to be completed by the student, in person with Ms. Koebrick or with a Victoria College representative.
  9. Contact Ms. Koebrick to Discuss Potential Dual Credit Courses and Confirm your Classes, including what course(s) and the mode of instruction (online or in person):
    • Students must confirm all courses and class times with Ms. Koebrick prior to the specified deadline.
      • Confirmation Deadline for Spring 2020 - (DECEMBER 6, 2019)
      • Confirmation Deadline for Fall 2020 - (FEBRUARY 7, 2020)
    • Students that do not confirm their classes will not be registered for their course(s) and may lose scholarship eligibility.
