For our next Alumni Spotlight, we’re going to share what 2016 Victoria East High School graduate Chase Laux has been up to since high school.

In addition to VEHS, Laux attended Howell Middle School and Vickers Elementary.

Stationed in Fort Hood,Texas, Laux currently serves in the United States Army as an Armor officer in the 3rd Cavalry Regiment. Before his decision to serve our country came though, he had many other experiences that helped shape who he has become today.

During his time in high school, Laux participated in the East Titan Band all four years and in Jazz Band his senior year. While he had many great teachers along the way, Chase credits Mr. Miller, band teacher, as a key educator in his life and one of the main reasons he enjoyed band so much.

His teachers over the years, especially during his most pivotal years at VEHS, had such a lasting impact on him that Chase gives them credit in his decision to attend college, stating “I had a lot of great teachers during this time that made going to school something actually I enjoyed.” He noted it was through their dedication that influenced him to pursue higher education.

So where did Chase head off to after graduating in 2016? Taking a gap year before beginning college, he first went to Basic Training, then AIT for Military Intelligence, and began serving as a Geospatial Intelligence Analyst in the Army Reserves.

In 2017, he decided to attend none other than Texas A&M University (Gig ‘em Ags!). It was here he would spend the next few years obtaining a degree and gathering more experiences that will last a lifetime.

During college, Laux had the opportunity to attend two studies abroad in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and Daugavoils, Latvia, learned his first foreign language in Russian, and was part of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets and the Parsons Mounted Cavalry. He also continued serving as Geospatial Intelligence Analyst in the Army Reserves until 2021.

Though sad days for many, Laux also had the absolute honor of participating in the funeral processions for both Barbara and George H.W. Bush that were held at Texas A&M.

He went on to graduate from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies with a focus in Politics and Diplomacy. Laux also previously received his Associates Degree in Intelligence Operations from Cochise College.

Fast forward to today, as he serves our country, Laux has advice for our current students in VISD. “Start planning for the future today. Even if your initial plans don't work out, they still give you somewhere to start.”
