East Side

The Victoria East High School Chapter of the RHO KAPPA National Social Studies Honor Society is sponsored by Mr. Fabbro, Mrs. Medlin, and Ms. Willis. 

In addition to being a Rho Kappa sponsor, Mr. Fabbro serves as a social studies teacher and mentor for the VEHS Advanced Academic Skills (AAS) Classes. All three sponsors have acted as volunteer mentors/advisers for the Texas Performance Standards Project (TPSP).

To prepare students for college, career, and civic life, we would like to highlight a few programs and organizations. Inclusion in this article does not indicate official endorsement by Victoria East High School or the Victoria Independent School District. 

Action Civics Initiative 

National Council for the Social Studies and the Victoria East High School Social Studies Department are a part of the Action Civics Initiative, a non-partisan network of 28 organizations. Action Civics is a student-centered, project-based approach to civics education that develops the individual skills, knowledge, and dispositions necessary for effective citizenship. The Action Civics Initiative promotes four strategies based on community needs: student voice; deliberation; real-world interactions with civic officials and processes; and strong instructor support. These organizations include:  

Design for Change USA

Design for Change empowers young people to change themselves and the world around them. Every year, students of all ages from around the country do projects in their community that not only improve lives but help them build their character. Using the Design for Change, design thinking process: feel, imagine, do, share - they have shut down drug houses, addressed the dropout rate in their high school, helped refugees assimilate to the American diet and have done hundreds of other projects in their local communities that have resulted in real change.
