When Victoria East Senior Matthew Jackson began his final high school track season, he had one goal: make it to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) State Track Meet.
Jackson’s season started out and continued to be strong. At every regular season meet, Jackson placed first in the long jump. He also placed first at the 29 5A District track meet and snagged another gold medal at the 29-30 5A Area track meet.
On April 28, he was named a 5A Region 4 Champion, earning 1st place in the long jump once again, and a spot to compete at the UIL State Track Meet on May 12, 2023, in Austin, Texas.
The VEHS boys and girls 4 x 200m relay teams also took home medals from the Regional meet, each placing third in their event.
