East Senior Wins Bronze at State UIL Academics for Ready Writing

Congratulations to Lacey Rivera, East Senior, for placing 3rd at the Universal Interscholastic League State Ready Writing Competition on Thursday, May 18, 2023. The UIL State meet was held at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas.

“It came full circle since I was unable to advance freshman year due to COVID,” said Rivera. “This award has shifted my perspective and has shown me that writing may be a promising career. I’m humbled to be among the greatest writers in the state.”

On the road to state, Rivera placed third in District at Veterans Memorial High School in Corpus Christi on March 25, and 2nd at Regionals at the University of Texas- San Antonio on April 22.

“Lacey’s creativity and communication shined this year, and she excelled at all levels of competition,” said VEHS English Teacher Jonathon Sixtos. “I’m very proud of all her hard work.”

“It is great to see that all the hard academic work that Lacey has put in over her time here at East and VISD has paid off for Lacey!  I look forward to Lacey launching into her next adventure when she graduates Friday night!” said Adam Wertman, VEHS UIL Academic Coordinator/Science Instructional Coach.

We are #VISDProud of you, Lacey!
