East High School Titan Debate Team Takes Home District Championship

On Tuesday, January 24, the Victoria East Titan Debate team competed in the 29-5A District Cross Examination (CX) Policy debate tournament, where they brought home a District championship.

In Policy Debate, students compete two-on-two.

Jack Yoast and Diego Cueller brought home the District championship, placing 1st overall.

When asked how he felt about their win, Yoast said, “Coming out of finals, we weren’t really confident that we were going to be winning that last round to get first place. When they announced first place, the other school was actually announced by accident, so it was a large swing of emotions there at the end, but it was very exciting.” Cueller added, “I was proud, but also very shocked. We were not very confident coming out of finals, but we did end up winning and I was happy about it.”

Anahi Medrano and Omyrah Rodriguez placed 4th overall.

Both of these teams will be representing Victoria East in the CX Policy Debate Championships on March 17-18.

Congratulations to these Titan students! We are #VISDProud of your hard work and wish you luck in the upcoming meets.
