Yearbook I, II, III

Newspaper/Broadcast I, II, III

October 6, 2022

I will be available from 7 a.m. till 4 p.m. in B-102, by email or phone.

Yearbook:

Staff will work in a classroom setting to complete a 248 page full color yearbook. They are responsible for selling advertisements, taking photos and designing pages. This is a co-curricular class and some after school time is involved.

Regular price for 2023 books will be $75. The Super Sale price is $60 from Aug. 1- Aug. 19. After Jan. 15 when number of books to be ordered is finalized the price will increase to $80. A few extra copies will be included in the final order and those will be sold on a first come first sold basis until they run out.

Books are only published one time, so once they run out there is no way to reorder. Books are never reprinted due to exorbitated cost involved.

Yearbook, Newspaper and Broadcast staffs sponsor the PowderPuff football games in the spring. The traditional Juniors vs. Seniors and then the Battle for the High Heel against West.

Newspaper:

In a classroom setting staff members will report the news of all things East. Events, sports and every day happenings. They will interview and write their stories which will be published in a print tab printed by the VISD print shop. There was an online version, but it ceased to exist last October. A pdf version will be published on the East website after October.

They will be responsible for writing news, features, editorials, headlines, columns or critiques.

Photojournalism:

This too is a classroom setting and photographers are staff members of the yearbook and newspaper. They are responsible for taking sports and event photos for use in student publications. Most of these are after school, so photographers will put in the most after school hours. They will be required to learn to shoot in manual mode to avoid flash as it is against UIL rules.

Journalism I:

This is a beginner class that covers a broad range of journalism topics. It is the gateway for freshmen to become staff members of the yearbook, newspaper or broadcast. It is a year long class. The fall and a bit into the spring semester students will study writing. They will cover news, feature, editorial, critiques and headline writing. In the spring we will shift into learning publishing software (InDesign), photography, Photoshop, page design and basic broadcast.
